All things to do with travel and transport

Draft Greater Manchester Transport Strategy 2050 published

This document sets out how the Greater Manchester Combined Authority (which Stockport Council is a part of) plans for transport to develop over the coming years. Quite a weighty document (176 pages) but worth a read as it affects all residents. The consultation is open until 9th March 2026. Bus pinch points - suggested improvements at the bottom of Dan Bank

The description of the scheme is as follows: "Widening of Marple Road, to facilitate extended left turn lanes on Marple Road at the junctions with Offerton Road and Dooley Lane in order to improve the operation of the junctions. This would require removal of a number of trees, which would be replaced elsewhere within the locality. The eastbound bus stop would be relocated to reflect the revised kerbline, with provision of a raised kerb to allow for level access to and from the buses. Widening of the pavement [would be carried out] along the same length as the carriageway is being widened." More detail can be seen here and our response is here.

Possible development on Windlehurst Road - MCS suggested transport infrastructure improvements

Persimmon Homes have undertaken a pre-planning consultation for a development of up to 250 homes on land adjacent to Windlehurst Road (near Bateson's Trailers). The scheme is described here, and our suggested transport infrastructure improvements, submitted as part of the pre-consultation, can be read here. If a full planning application is made both the Get About Better group and our Planning group will provide further information in the newsletter.
